Debate classes for Frisco students, taught live online.
Podium Debate teaches Lincoln-Douglas debate to Frisco students in grades 5-12 over live video, from anywhere in Frisco. One 90-minute session a week, cohorts capped at six to eight students grouped by age and skill level, $165 a month with no joining fee. The current season began September 8, 2026. We also work with families in Prosper, Little Elm, The Colony.
Frisco has built new high schools faster than almost any district in the country, and a new school does not arrive with a decade-old debate program attached. Podium Debate coaches Lincoln-Douglas online for grades 5-12, which means a Frisco student's access to a coach does not depend on which of the district's campuses they were zoned into this year.
Where debate happens around the north Dallas suburbs
Frisco ISD competes in the University Interscholastic League and the Texas Forensic Association, the two circuits that define Texas high school debate. UIL runs its own Lincoln-Douglas event with its own resolutions, separate from the national NSDA topics, and TFA tournaments run most weekends of the season across the Metroplex.
UIL's Lincoln-Douglas event is a high school event. A Frisco middle schooler who wants LD generally waits until 9th grade, arrives with no experience, and competes against students who have been doing it since the summer before freshman year. Starting in 6th or 7th grade is the entire advantage, and locally there is almost nowhere to do it.
Podium Debate is not affiliated with any school, district, or league named on this page. League rules and school programs change; confirm anything that matters to your decision with the organization itself.
Scheduling from Frisco
Frisco is on Central time, one hour behind the Eastern times we schedule in. A session quoted at 7:00pm Eastern starts at 6:00pm for you, which for most families is an easier slot than it is on the East Coast, not a harder one.
Cohort times are fixed once a roster is set, and most land on weekday evenings and weekends because that is what fits around a school day. A locked weekly slot is deliberate: the same six to eight students meeting at the same time all season is what lets a coach write a specific note about your child in week twelve rather than a generic one. Bring your constraints to the call before you enroll.
Missing a week is handled plainly: cohort sessions never deduct credits, whatever the reason you cannot make one. The 24-hour cancellation window and the half-credit charge apply only to 1:1 and sibling sessions. The full terms are on the refund and cancellation page.
What a Frisco family actually gets
- One live 90-minute cohort a week, six to eight students, drilled rather than lectured. Every student debates every session.
- A written progress note after every session, specific to your child, not a group recap. This is most of what you are actually buying visibility into.
- Always-on access to coaches between sessions, so a stuck rebuttal on a Tuesday does not wait a week.
- Internal practice tournaments and member prep files, included from day one, plus a complimentary 30-minute 1:1 when you join.
Core is $165 a month billed month to month, or $1,200 prepaid for the full 8-month season, which is $150 a month. Additional 1:1 hours run $60 an hour for members, down to $55 bundled, against a $90 base rate. The whole list, including what comparable programs charge, is on pricing.
How this fits alongside what Frisco already has
Podium Debate is non-exclusive, so a student with a school team keeps it. A student whose school runs Public Forum can add Lincoln-Douglas here without leaving that team, and the skills transfer directly between the two. For external tournaments in Texas, we handle selection, preparation, and logistics so the student walks in ready.
What we do is the part that is genuinely missing in most metros: teaching Lincoln-Douglas to students in grades 5-12 who have never done it, in a cohort at their own age and level, at a price that is not built for families already deep in the national circuit.
